White Crest Beach Surf Guide

Local swell, wind, and tide notes for Wellfleet

White Crest Beach in Wellfleet is a wide open sandbar beach on the Outer Cape. Plenty of room to spread out when east swell and west wind line up.

Best swell
East and ESE swells light up the long beachbreak bars. Works on a range of sizes from longboard small to punchy chest-high.
Best wind
West offshore wind is ideal. Strong WNW can add surface texture above 5 mph.
Tide tip
Mid to low tide exposes sandbars; high tide spreads surfers out but can fatten the waves.
Skill level
Beginner to intermediate on small days; intermediate when size and current pick up.

Beach safety

Cape Cod National Seashore beaches carry Stop the Bleed trauma kits and emergency call boxes. Know where they are before you paddle out.

  • Call 911 for any emergency. Lifeguards are typically on duty mid-June through Labor Day only.
  • Purple shark flags mean elevated shark risk - follow NPS Shark Smart guidance and check the Sharktivity app.
  • Strong rips, shorebreak, and cold water are common. Surf within your limits and never alone in the off-season.

Common questions

Is White Crest Beach good for longboarding?

Yes on small, clean east-swell days. White Crest is a classic Cape longboard spot when period and wind cooperate.

How does White Crest compare to Marconi?

Both are Wellfleet Outer Cape beachbreaks. White Crest is often less crowded with a wider open beach; Marconi catches swell similarly but has a different bar layout.
