Coast Guard Beach Surf Guide

Local swell, wind, and tide notes for Eastham

Coast Guard Beach in Eastham is a scenic National Seashore break and one of the most searched Cape Cod surf reports. It catches swell well but can be fickle - worth checking when Atlantic energy is up.

Best swell
Southeast and east swells are the classic setup. A SE swell combining with west wind is the configuration surf guides cite most often for Coast Guard Beach.
Best wind
Offshore wind from the west (W–WNW, 235–305°) cleans up the faces. Onshore or easterly wind quickly crumbles conditions.
Tide tip
Mid tide is the sweet spot for many surfers. Low tide can expose rocks and closeouts near the glacial bluff; high tide pushes water up the beach fast.
Skill level
Intermediate overall. The wave can be difficult and sectiony - experienced surfers find better barrels on the right sandbar and swell combo.

Flat or blown out? Also check Nauset Light Beach , Nauset Beach , Marconi Beach .

Beach safety

Cape Cod National Seashore beaches carry Stop the Bleed trauma kits and emergency call boxes. Know where they are before you paddle out.

  • Call 911 for any emergency. Lifeguards are typically on duty mid-June through Labor Day only.
  • Purple shark flags mean elevated shark risk - follow NPS Shark Smart guidance and check the Sharktivity app.
  • Strong rips, shorebreak, and cold water are common. Surf within your limits and never alone in the off-season.
